The pricing page shows a tummy tuck at $4,000 to $8,500. People reasonably ask why a range that wide is useful. The answer is that it is built from six things that actually vary, and once you know which ones apply to you, the range collapses to a number. Here are the six, with how much each one typically moves a quote.
1. Surgeon seniority
Typical effect: 15 to 30 percent. A plastic surgeon five years out of residency and one twenty years out, both SCCP members, both in ReTHUS, will quote differently and both will be honest. Seniority buys judgment on difficult cases, a longer track record you can inspect, and, frankly, a fuller calendar that lets the surgeon charge more. It does not automatically buy a better result on a routine case. If your case is routine, the five-year surgeon at a good hospital is often the value pick.
2. Facility tier
Typical effect: 10 to 25 percent. Colombia licenses surgical facilities by complexity level. A JCI-accredited hospital with ICU and overnight capacity charges the surgeon more per OR hour than a licensed ambulatory clinic, and that passes to you. For a 90-minute case, the ambulatory clinic is appropriate. For a five-hour combined case, most senior surgeons require the hospital, and the quote reflects it. The facility article goes deeper.
3. Case complexity
Typical effect: 10 to 40 percent. BMI, skin quality, prior surgery in the area, how many lipo areas, whether muscle repair is needed, revision versus primary. This is the lever the instant-quote sites cannot see, which is why their numbers are not yours. A BMI of 34 turns a routine tummy tuck into a longer case with more anesthesia time and, at many hospitals, a mandatory overnight stay. Revision rhinoplasty carries a 40 to 80 percent premium on its own.
4. Combining procedures
Typical effect: minus 10 to 25 percent on the second procedure. The only lever that moves the quote down. One anesthesia, one OR setup, one recovery. A surgeon who combines a breast lift with a tummy tuck will typically price the second procedure below its standalone rate. The limit is OR time and safety; most Colombian surgeons cap combined cases around six hours and will stage anything longer.
5. Dates
Typical effect: 5 to 10 percent. Colombian clinics have seasons. December through January and the weeks around Semana Santa are busy with domestic patients and prices firm up. Late February through April and September through November are typically softer. Some surgeons offer modest discounts for filling a cancelled slot. This is the lever you can pull without changing anything about your surgery.
6. The exchange rate
Typical effect: 3 to 8 percent in any given quarter. Clinics price in pesos. The USD figure on your quote is a conversion on a date. The peso has moved 5 percent in a quarter more than once in recent years, and it can move in your favor or against you between quote and payment. Get the COP figure and the date on the quote. Stacking the levers
Two honest quotes, same patient, $3,100 apart. Neither surgeon is cheating. One is selling seniority and a hospital; the other is selling value and an ambulatory clinic. The right choice depends on your case, and that is a conversation, not a price list.
When a quote is outside the range
- Above the high end. Usually a very senior surgeon, a complex case, or a facilitator markup. Ask which. The first two are fine. The third is on the markup article.
