Breast Augmentation in Colombia: Reading the Implant Line on Your Quote

Breast augmentation is the most standardized cosmetic procedure in Colombia. A primary augmentation is a 60-to-90-minute case, usually in an ambulatory clinic, with a predictable recovery. Surgeon fees cluster. So when two quotes for the same patient differ by $1,500, the difference is almost always sitting in one line: the implants.

What the quote should list

Typical 2026 total: $3,500 to $6,500. The same procedure runs $6,500 to $12,000 as US self-pay. Adding a mastopexy (lift) pushes the Colombian range to $5,000 to $8,500 because it doubles the OR time and adds a second surgical skill.

The implant line, decoded

A real implant line reads something like: "Motiva Ergonomix round, 300 to 350 cc range, 5-year warranty, INVIMA registration on file." A weak implant line reads: "implants included." Here is what to look for.

Brand and tier

The brands you will see most in Colombia are Motiva (Establishment Labs, made in Costa Rica), Mentor (Johnson & Johnson), and Allergan Natrelle. Motiva Ergonomix and Mentor MemoryGel sit at the upper tier; older-generation or regional brands sit lower. The tier difference is typically $500 to $900 per pair and it is real cost, not markup. A quote using a premium brand at a low-tier price should prompt a question about whether the implants are new stock.

INVIMA registration

INVIMA is Colombia's medical device regulator, the equivalent of the FDA for this purpose. Breast implants sold legally in Colombia carry an INVIMA registration number. Ask for it. A clinic that cannot produce it is either using gray-market stock or does not want to tell you what it is using. Both are disqualifying.

Warranty and the implant card

Manufacturers issue warranties on rupture and, in some cases, capsular contracture, typically 5 to 10 years with replacement implants covered. The clinic should hand you the implant card with serial numbers before you leave. That card is what a US surgeon needs if you ever have a revision at home. No card, no proof of what is in you.

Under the muscle, over the muscle, dual plane

Placement does not usually change the price much, but it should appear on the quote because it changes recovery and it tells you the surgeon has planned your case. Dual-plane is the most common choice for thin patients in Colombia. Subglandular is faster to recover from and appropriate for patients with more tissue. If the quote does not state a plane, the surgeon has not looked at your photos yet.

What augmentation alone does not include

• A lift. If you have had children or significant weight loss, you may need mastopexy. That is a separate line and a separate skill. Comparing an augmentation-plus-lift quote to an augmentation-only quote is the most common apples-to-oranges mistake.
• Fat transfer. Some patients want a hybrid (implants plus fat). Adds liposuction lines.
• Revision of prior implants. Removal, capsulectomy, and replacement is its own quote, typically $4,500 to $8,000.

Where the surgery happens

Ambulatory clinics are the standard setting for primary augmentation in Colombia, and that is fine when the clinic is properly licensed and the anesthesiologist is a physician (not a nurse anesthetist alone, which is not permitted for general anesthesia in Colombia). A hospital setting adds $500 to $1,200 and is worth it for combined cases or patients with health conditions. The surgeon should be a plastic surgeon listed in ReTHUS with SCCP membership. Trip math

Seven nights is typical for augmentation alone. Surgery day 2, first check day 4, clearance to fly day 7. Flights plus lodging add roughly $800 to $1,800. Most patients land 40 to 50 percent under a US quote all-in. Run your own numbers in the estimator.
