- Typical 2026 range in Colombia: $2,500 to $5,500 for 2,000 to 3,500 grafts. US self-pay: $8,000 to $15,000.
- Per-graft pricing runs $1.20 to $2.50 in Colombia. Package pricing is usually a cap: read the cap.
- The line that matters most is not on most quotes: who performs the extraction and implantation, the surgeon or technicians.
- A 5,000-graft single session is a marketing number, not a medical one.
Hair transplant is the one procedure where Colombia is not the cheapest option on the map. Turkey is. Colombia's case is different: surgeon-performed FUE at a price still 50 to 65 percent under the US, three to five flight hours from most of North America, and no language wall for follow-up. The quote is where you find out whether that case holds for the clinic in front of you.
Per graft or package
Typical 2026 total for a 2,000-to-3,500-graft FUE in Colombia: $2,500 to $5,500. Turkey typically $1,800 to $3,500 for the same count. US self-pay $8,000 to $15,000. Read on for why the cheapest number is not the whole comparison.
The question that decides everything
FUE has three steps: extracting follicular units from the donor area with a punch, making recipient-site incisions, and placing the grafts. In the highest-volume clinics globally, the surgeon designs the hairline and the technicians do all three steps. In surgeon-led clinics, the surgeon does the extraction and the incisions and supervises placement. The result depends heavily on the extraction: punch angle, transection rate, and donor management decide whether you have a second procedure available in ten years.
Ask the quote's author, in writing: "Who performs the extractions, and who makes the recipient incisions?" A clinic that answers "our medical team" has told you. A clinic that answers "Dr. X performs extraction and incisions; two technicians assist with placement" has told you something worth paying $1,000 more for. In Colombia, both models exist. The per-graft price does not reveal which one you are buying.
Graft counts and the donor bank
Most people have roughly 5,000 to 7,000 grafts of safe donor supply for a lifetime. A responsible first session is usually 2,000 to 3,500. Quotes that promise 5,000 grafts in one day are selling volume, and they get there by over-harvesting or by counting hairs instead of follicular units. The quote should say grafts (follicular units), and the surgeon should show you a donor assessment before naming a number.
FUE, DHI, sapphire, and the marketing layer
DHI uses an implanter pen to place grafts directly, skipping pre-made incisions. Sapphire FUE uses sapphire blades for the incisions. Both are legitimate variations. Neither is a different surgery, and neither justifies a large premium on its own. The premium worth paying is surgeon involvement, not tool branding. If a quote lists "Sapphire DHI Premium" as a line item, ask what it changes about who does the work.
Who should do it in Colombia
Hair restoration in Colombia is practiced by dermatologists and plastic surgeons, and there is no hair-transplant specialty as such. Check the surgeon in ReTHUS for a real specialty, ask how many FUE cases they do per month, and ask to see their own results at 12 months on a hairline like yours. The Colombia Hair Transplant guide covers the full vetting process.
Trip math
Four nights is enough: consult day 1, surgery day 2, first wash day 3, check day 4. Flights plus lodging add roughly $600 to $1,200. All-in, most patients land 50 to 60 percent under a US surgeon-led clinic, and within a few hundred dollars of a Turkey package once you add the longer flight and the extra nights. See the three-way comparison for the full honest math, and the estimator for your own nights. Network context is on Colombia Medical.

Questions people ask
How much does a hair transplant cost in Colombia in 2026?
Typically $2,500 to $5,500 for 2,000 to 3,500 FUE grafts, or $1.20 to $2.50 per graft. US self-pay runs $8,000 to $15,000; Turkey $1,800 to $3,500. Typical ranges, not quotes.
Is per-graft or package pricing better?
Neither is inherently better. Packages have a graft cap; read it. Per-graft is transparent for large or small cases. The more important question is who performs the extraction.
Who performs the extraction in Colombian hair transplant clinics?
It varies. Some clinics are surgeon-led for extraction and incisions; others are technician-driven. Ask in writing and expect a specific answer.
How many grafts can be done in one session?
A responsible first session is 2,000 to 3,500. Promises of 5,000 in a day usually mean over-harvesting or counting hairs rather than follicular units.
Is Colombia cheaper than Turkey for hair transplants?
No. Turkey is cheaper per graft. Colombia's case is surgeon-led work, shorter flights from North America, and English-language follow-up, at roughly half US prices.
How long do I stay in Colombia for a hair transplant?
Four nights: consult, surgery, first wash, and a final check. Follow-up photos happen remotely at 6 and 12 months.
