- Revision typically prices 30 to 80 percent over primary for the same procedure. Rhinoplasty is at the top of that spread; breast implant exchange near the bottom.
- Surgeons who accept revisions want the operative report, implant cards, imaging, and photos over time before saying a number. The ones who quote from one photo are guessing.
- Many senior surgeons decline revisions of other surgeons’ work, or take them only after an in-person exam. That is a mark of judgment, not arrogance.
- A revision quoted at or below the primary range is the red flag. It means the surgeon is pricing an operation they have not understood.
Every week someone messages this site with a result from somewhere else, sometimes Colombia, sometimes Miami, sometimes Turkey, and asks for a price to fix it. The honest answer is always the same: a revision cannot be priced from a photo, it will cost more than the original, and the first thing to do is assemble a file. This article explains the premium, what goes in the file, and how to read the quotes that come back.
Why revision costs more
Four reasons, and every one of them is OR time or risk.
- Scar tissue. The surgeon operates through the previous surgeon’s healing. Planes are fused, tissue is stiffer, bleeding is less predictable. A three-hour primary becomes a four- or five-hour revision.
- Unknowns. Without the original operative report the surgeon does not know what was removed, what was placed, or how. Rhinoplasty is the extreme case: cartilage that was taken cannot be put back, and the revision may need a rib or ear graft that the primary never did.
- Two goals instead of one. A primary makes something better. A revision has to undo a problem and then make it better, and the undoing is often the harder half.
- Liability and follow-up. Revisions have higher complication rates and need more visits. Surgeons who do them well build that into the fee.
Primary vs revision, typical 2026 Colombian ranges
Both series are Colombian ranges; the second bar on each row is the revision, not a US figure. Revision ranges are wider because the operation is less predictable. Simple scar revisions and minor asymmetry corrections can fall below these; complex reconstructions can exceed them.
What to send before anyone quotes you
A revision surgeon prices from a file, not a photo. Assembling it is the most useful thing you can do this week, and every serious surgeon will ask for the same items.
Why good surgeons say no, or say slowly
Some of the best plastic surgeons in Colombia decline revisions of other surgeons’ work as a policy, or accept them only after an in-person examination, and a patient encountering that for the first time often reads it as arrogance or as a sign the case is hopeless. It is neither. A surgeon who will not quote your revision from a photo is telling you they take the unknowns seriously; a surgeon who wants to examine you first is telling you they will not promise what they cannot see. The quote that comes after that examination is worth more than three that arrived by WhatsApp in an hour.
The same logic applies to timing. Most surgeons want six to twelve months of healing after the primary before a revision, because tissue that is still settling cannot be assessed and may improve on its own. A surgeon who offers to revise a three-month-old result is not being helpful.
Reading the revision quotes that come back
Compare them on three things, none of which is the total. First, did the surgeon explain what they think went wrong and what they would do about it? A revision quote without a diagnosis is a number attached to nothing. Second, is the OR time stated, and does it reflect a revision, meaning longer than the primary? Third, is the facility a hospital, or at least a high-complexity clinic? Revisions bleed more and take longer, and a surgeon who moves your revision to a hospital is pricing your safety. The six levers in the quote-variation article all apply, with complexity turned up.
What this site does with revision requests
Andy will not quote a revision. He will ask for the file above, send it to surgeons who accept revisions in that procedure, and pass back what they say, including the ones who say no and why. The quote that arrives names the surgeon and facility, states the diagnosis and OR time, and is itemized so you can compare it to the primary ranges on the pricing page and see the premium in the open. BBL-specific revision questions, including fat necrosis and asymmetry, are covered on Colombia BBL; other procedures on Colombia Cosmetic Surgery; the network hub is Colombia Medical. The estimator will underestimate a revision trip, because it uses primary ranges; add 30 to 80 percent to the surgical line and a few extra nights.

Questions people ask
How much more does revision surgery cost in Colombia?
Typically 30 to 80 percent over the primary range for the same procedure. Revision rhinoplasty sits at the top because it often needs cartilage grafts; breast implant exchange sits nearer the bottom. Complex reconstructions can exceed the ranges.
What should I send a surgeon for a revision quote?
The original operative report, implant cards or lot numbers, photos from before, immediately after, and now, any imaging, a timeline of when the problem appeared, and what the original surgeon said. Surgeons who quote without this are guessing.
Why do some Colombian surgeons refuse revisions?
Because revisions are less predictable and carry higher complication rates, and some surgeons only accept them after an in-person exam or not at all. It is a sign of judgment, not a sign your case is hopeless.
How long should I wait before a revision?
Most surgeons want six to twelve months after the primary, because tissue that is still settling cannot be assessed and some problems improve on their own. A surgeon offering to revise a three-month result is not helping you.
Is a cheap revision quote a red flag?
Yes. A revision priced at or below the primary range from a photo means the surgeon has not accounted for scar tissue, unknowns, or longer OR time. Expect additions later or an operation that goes badly.
Can I get my medical records from the original clinic?
Yes. In Colombia and most countries, clinics are obliged to provide your operative report and records on request. Ask in writing, keep the request, and escalate to the relevant health authority if refused.
